The most important question regarding the continuing education courses is, "Will they count toward my licensure CEU requirements?" We understand the importance of that question and have spent a great deal of time researching the licensure requirements of various state boards in an effort to determine applicability of our professional development offerings.
Below is a summary of our findings and whether, in our opinion, the CEU courses offered here are likely to be applicable. Please note that it is the responsibility of the licensee in most cases to ensure that the activity meets the state board requirements in effect at the time the CEU activity is undertaken. We cannot guarantee that the CEU hours will be applicable for any given board, state, or license unless we show a valid provider number for that state or board and you select a course with content appropriate to your license and area of practice. Some states do not issue provider numbers or pre-approve continuing education providers or programs. Others may require the licensee to seek pre-approval for programs not expressly recognized by that licensure board before undertaking the activity.
Another factor to consider in selecting your coursework is relevancy. Some boards review CEU course titles for relevancy to the area in which the licensee practices. This is common with Marriage and Family Therapy boards and others. The questions that you may want to consider are, "Will this material contribute to my professional growth and development and is it likely to be useful to me with regard to my practice activities?" Taking a CEU course completely unrelated to your area of practice is not likely to assist you with your professional development and may not be accepted by your state board or examiners.
Although every effort is made to keep this information current, changes may occur without notice and you are encouraged to check with your licensing agency or board if you have any questions about the applicability of these hours before engaging in the coursework, especially if your license is not mental health specific. Since the licensure board will be determining appropriateness of the hours, it is the only entity that can provide you with a definitive answer of whether the continuing education hours will or will not be recognized. Please note that refunds are not be issued for board non-acceptance of credit unless we display a valid provider number for that board at the time of the CEU activity. For some states/boards use of our courses as independent or home study may require additional documentation or work on behalf of the licensee, such as completion of an affidavit or summary paper.
