At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify some of the faulty beliefs of the alcoholic or person in recovery.

2. Understand and identify representative barriers to intimacy.

3. Enhance understanding of how to help the person in recovery and partner with sexual issues.

4. Demonstrate an enhanced understanding of helpful and detrimental intervention techniques in helping.

5. Correctly answer 75% of multiple choice questions on a quiz over the material.

Target Audience:
This course is designed for healthcare providers. Specifically, it is designed for Social Workers, Psychologists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, or any other healthcare provider that is likely to gain professionally from increased knowledge of dynamics between addicted and non-addicted individuals. It is appropriate for any provider that is likely to come into contact with those dealing with issues related to alcoholism in the course of clinical practice.


Teaching Method:
This course is being delivered via a web-based format in which you will be asked to read material relevant to the topic and answer questions about the material you have read. You will also have the opportunity to complete a course evaluation at the conclusion of the course to help the instructors know how well we are meeting the learning objectives and how well you like the format of delivery for the material. Learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to familiarize the learner with a basic understanding of attachment and sexuality in relationships with alcoholics and sober alcoholics. It addresses some of the basic concepts that are important in dealing with the intimate aspects of life for someone in recovery from alcohol and outlines implications for working with partners of those in recovery in the same clinical areas. The book addresses not only some common themes, but also key points that can be conveyed to clients in the course of counseling and therapy addressing these issues.
