Target Audience:
This course is designed for healthcare providers. Specifically, it is designed for Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, or any other provider that is likely to gain professionally from increased knowledge in the subject area. It is appropriate for any provider that is likely to come into contact with those dealing with issues related to the clinical topic in the course of practice.


Teaching Method:
This course is being delivered via a web-based format in which you will be asked to read material relevant to the topic and answer questions about the material you have read. You will also have the opportunity to complete a course evaluation at the conclusion of the course to help the instructors know how well we are meeting the learning objectives and how well you like the format of delivery for the material.


Learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to familiarize the learner with research on the identification, assessment and intervention for alcohol related disorders as they affect family. Specifically, interventions with the family both with and without the drinker present are discussed.




Skill Development:
At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify criteria for various drinking problems.
2. Identify instruments utilized in screening and assessing alcohol problems.
3. Demonstrate an enhance understanding of family interventions for alcohol problems.
4. Explain the reason and rationale for addressing or not addressing drinking within the family sessions.
5. Correctly answer 75% of multiple choice questions on a quiz over the material.
