Target Audience:
This course is designed for healthcare providers. Specifically, it is designed for Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, or any other healthcare provider that is likely to gain professionally from increased knowledge in the subject area. It is appropriate for any provider that is likely to come into contact with those dealing with issues related to the clinical topic in the course of practice.


Teaching Method:
This course is being delivered via a web-based format in which you will be asked to read material relevant to the topic and answer questions about the material you have read. You will also have the opportunity to complete a course evaluation at the conclusion of the course to help the instructors know how well we are meeting the learning objectives and how well you like the format of delivery for the material. Other feedback related to the topic or course, including questions or concerns, is always welcome and may be submitted by E-Mail


Learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to familiarize the learner with HIPAA legislation. A summary of the key points most relevant to the healthcare provider is utilized. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide or resource and information is subject to change and does not replace the legal advice of an attorney. The learner will become familiar with the basic goals and procedures of HIPAA.

1. Explain the purpose of HIPAA.

2. Identify appropriate uses of disclosure.

3. Explain implications of inappropriate disclosures of PHI.

4. Define specific terms related to HIPAA.

5. Correctly answer 75% of multiple choice questions on a quiz over the material.
