Target Audience:
This course is designed for healthcare providers. Specifically, it is designed for Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), Social Workers (LMSW, LCSW), Psychologists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, or any other healthcare provider that is likely to gain professionally from increased knowledge in the subject area. It is appropriate for any provider that is likely to come into contact with those dealing with issues related to the clinical topic in the course of practice.
Learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to help the helping professional fully understand the roles and limitations of peer based mutual support groups in the recover process. It is also intended to educate providers regarding appropriate knowledge of resources for referrals of both people struggling with addiction and/or family members of those struggling with addiction. A better understanding of the purpose and process of the models
will assist treatment providers in having a more meaningful dialog with patients or clients who may benefit from a discussion about what to expect from attendance at a meeting.
