Target Audience:
This course is designed for healthcare providers. Specifically, it is designed for Licensed Professional Counselors,
Social Workers, Psychologists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, or any other
provider that is likely to gain professionally from increased knowledge in the subject area. It is appropriate for
any provider that is likely to come into contact with those dealing with issues realted to the clinical topic in the
course of practice.
Teaching Method:
This course is being delivered via a web-based format in which you will be asked to read material relevant to the topic
and answer questions about the material you have read. You will also have the opportunity to complete a course evaluation
at the conclusion of the course to help the instructors know how well we are meeting the learning objectives and how well
you like the format of delivery of the material.

Learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to familiarize the learner with research regarding how suicide measures are developed.
Specific implications to certain populations, statistical information, and recommendations for future
directions are presented.
This material is relevant to the mental health worker because it helps facilitate a better understanding of
suicidality and it's measurement. Mental healthcare providers are more likely than average
to encounter individuals with suicidal ideation.

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Explain suicide scale development.
2. Identify 2 or more instruments for the measurement of suicidality.
3. Explain the impact of scale development on certain populations.
4. Identify statistical trends in suicidal behavior.
5. Correctly answer 75% of multiple choice questions on a quiz over the material.
