Target Audience:
This course is designed for healthcare providers. Specifically, it is designed for Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, or any other healthcare provider that is likely to gain professionally from increased knowledge in the subject area. It is appropriate for any provider that is likely to come into contact with those dealing with issues related to the clinical topic in the course of practice.


Teaching Method:
This course is being delivered via a web-based format in which you will be asked to read material relevant to the topic and answer questions about the material you have read. You will also have the opportunity to complete a course evaluation at the conclusion of the course to help the instructors know how well we are meeting the learning objectives and how well you like the format of delivery for the material. Learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to familiarize the learner with formulation and implementation of various types of suicide prevention programs. Some basic suggestions regarding needs, strategies, and specific suggestions for programming strategies at various levels. Knowledge about suicide screening, intervention, and referral is important to the healthcare professional because he or she is more likely than others to have contact with an individual with mood disorders or suicidal ideation with other etiologies.

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Explain levels of suicide prevention programming.
2. Identify some specific statistics relative to suicide.
3. Explain the environments for which programming is important.
4. Identify specific groups for whom additional prevention training is appropriate.
5. Correctly answer 75% of multiple choice questions on a quiz over the material.
